We ask this because healthy weight ranges vary for different ethnic backgrounds.

• Prediabetes
• Type 2 diabetes
• High blood pressure (hypertension)
• High cholesterol (dyslipidaemia)
• Heart or blood vessel disease (including previous heart attack)
• Previous stroke
• Osteoarthritis
• Obstructive sleep apnoea
• Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), previously known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)
• Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)  

• Medullary thyroid carcinoma (personal or family history)
• Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2 (MEN2)
• Active cancer currently under treatment
• Pancreatitis
• Type 1 Diabetes (Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus)
• Uncontrolled diabetes with high hypoglycaemia risk
• Severe gastrointestinal disease
• Gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying)
• Chronic malabsorption syndrome
• Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis)
• History of bowel obstruction
• Severe reflux with aspiration risk

• Eating disorder diagnosis (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating)
• Required specialist weight management services
• Severe hepatic impairment (liver failure)
• Severe renal impairment or kidney failure (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m²)
• Active suicidal thoughts or recent self-harm

• Blocked bile flow (cholelithiasis)
• Gallbladder infection (cholecystitis)
• Gallbladder surgery within the past 12 months
• Addison’s disease
• Cushing’s syndrome
• Acromegaly
• Congenital adrenal hyperplasia
• Growth hormone disorders
• Overactive thyroid requiring treatment
• Obesity primarily due to endocrine or medication causes

• Heart failure, causing breathlessness at rest
• Significant cardiac arrhythmias
• History of stroke or major cardiovascular disease
• Diabetic retinopathy
• Planned retinal surgery or recent major vision change
• Untreated severe sleep apnoea
• Unstable seizure disorders
• Cognitive impairment affecting consent or adherence
• Autoimmune disease treated with immunosuppressants
• Organ transplant history
• Frailty or frequent falls where rapid weight loss may be unsafe
• Thyroid lumps, swelling, or hoarseness under investigation

• Gastric Sleeve (Sleeve Gastrectomy)
• Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y)
• Gastric Band (Lap-Band), including removal or adjustment
• Gastric Balloon
• Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)
• Duodenal Switch

GLP-1 medications such as Mounjaro and Wegovy must not be used during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding. If you are planning a pregnancy, you must stop treatment at least three months before conception.
