In short: You can switch to the Wegovy pill from a weekly injection, but it must be prescriber-supervised. Switching from the Wegovy injection is simple — same molecule (semaglutide), usually no washout. Switching from Mounjaro is bigger — different molecule (tirzepatide), so a washout gap (commonly ~7 days) is needed. There’s no fixed dose-conversion chart; your prescriber confirms your starting strength.

Since the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) was approved on 11 June 2026, many patients on weekly injections want to switch to a needle-free daily tablet. This guide explains how each switch works, why the two are different, what to expect, and what your prescriber needs to know for a smooth transition.

Why the Type of Switch Matters

The two switches are not the same, because they involve different medicines:

Switching From the Wegovy Injection → Pill

This is the more straightforward switch because both are semaglutide.

  • No washout usually needed — same molecule, so no drug to clear first.
  • Timing: you typically start the tablet around when your next weekly injection would have been due.
  • Starting strength: chosen by your prescriber based on your current injection dose and tolerability — not a fixed conversion. Absorption differs between forms, so you won’t necessarily match milligram-for-milligram.
  • Day to day: you move from one weekly injection to one daily tablet, taken on an empty stomach with the 30-minute wait.

Switching From Mounjaro → Pill

This is a bigger change because you’re moving to a different molecule.

  • Washout required — a gap (commonly around 7 days) after your last Mounjaro injection before your first tablet. Two GLP-1 medicines must not overlap.
  • Appetite may feel different — Mounjaro acts on two hunger hormones (GLP-1 and GIP); the pill acts on one (GLP-1). Some people notice slightly less appetite suppression and discuss this with their prescriber.
  • Starting strength: judged by your prescriber from your Mounjaro dose, tolerability and progress — not a simple dose-for-dose swap.
What strength should I order? You shouldn’t work this out yourself. There is no manufacturer-published dose-equivalence chart for switching to the oral form for weight loss, so your correct starting strength is always confirmed by a registered prescriber at your consultation. Complete your free assessment and your Slinic prescriber maps the right dose for you.

What to Tell Your Prescriber

With this, your prescriber confirms a safe starting strength, any washout gap, and the right day to take your first tablet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch from the Wegovy injection to the pill?

Yes, under prescriber supervision. Because both are semaglutide, no washout is usually needed and you typically start the tablet when your next injection would have been due. Your prescriber confirms the starting strength.

Can I switch from Mounjaro to the Wegovy pill?

Yes, but it’s a bigger change because they’re different molecules. A washout gap of around 7 days after your last Mounjaro injection is usually required, and your prescriber confirms your starting strength.

Is there a dose conversion chart for switching?

No — there’s no manufacturer-published dose-equivalence protocol for switching to the oral form for weight loss. Your starting strength is a clinical decision made by your prescriber, never self-selected.

Do I need a washout period to switch?

From the Wegovy injection, usually not (same molecule). From Mounjaro, yes — commonly around 7 days, because it’s a different molecule.

Will I lose progress by switching?

Switching is designed to continue your treatment without a gap. Your prescriber times it to avoid interruption and confirms an appropriate dose to maintain your progress.
